Happy father’s day Dad!

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

I just wanted to give a little history on the origins of Father’s day. The original idea came from a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd who wanted to honor her dad as well as all the dads out there. The day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June every year.

To my Dad I just wanted to let him know that I love him so much! My dad is always kind and generous to all the people he meets. He has been able to raise his children with the help of mom and we all turned out pretty good. Way to go Dad!

Watch Out!

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Usually I am pretty even tempered, but there are a few things that will make me lose my cool. One of those things is people who drive while talking on their cell phones. These persons make driving a lot more dangerous than it needs to be. I don’t know how many times I have been cut off, nearly sideswiped, or stopped short because of their distraction.

The other day it happened again. I was making a left when another driver pulled right in front of me. I could clearly see the driver was on the phone and not paying attention. The lady realized her mistake and waved at me apologetically, but that was of little comfort being as that she almost wrecked me.

Occasionally the subject will come up in front of the lawmaking body. Each time it does, I always add my support to those who wish to make this practice illegal. I think it is very dangerous and I am certain that it has been the cause of many accidents and injuries. I vote against cell phones in cars!

It’s Finally Happened

Our office has many fund raising events from time to time. I am always the sucker they come to first. Everyone knows my weakness for gambling and I’ve bought into almost every scheme they come up with. I am happy to announce that after many years and dollars, I’ve finally won something. I won two tickets to a baseball game. The only thing I can say is it’s about time!!

Each year I play all the office lotteries. I played the football pools and the draws. I have never had any luck to date. I’m glad to have been the one to win these tickets. The bad part is that they now know I will play everything from now on. I guess it doesn’t really matter, after all everything is for a good cause.

Ethanol, Good or Bad?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

I have been reading a lot about ethanol lately. Many people are counting on it to help reduce greenhouse emissions. By growing corn and turning it into fuel, we have reduced our dependency on fossil fuels. The problem is how much energy are we actually saving? It takes a lot of energy to grow, transport, and process the corn. By the time were done, we have used almost as much energy as we are trying to save.

Another problem associated with ethanol is that it causes food prices to rise. By transferring production of corn to fuel use, there is less to sell as food. Some third world countries are really feeling the pinch. There have even been riots over the situation. I hope that we can find an answer to this problem that will satisfy us all!
