Cricket Virus

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

I read an interesting story today about a new cricket virus that has killed millions of crickets that are raised and used for pet shop animals. The virus started in Europe and has finally reached the United States. It has caused some cricket growers to go out of business.

There are many cricket farms in the south and some are in real trouble. New sanitary measures must be taken to ensure the crickets are not exposed to the virus. This has been costly and time-consuming. The problem will be overcome but it has reminded us that food supplies of all types must be kept safe.

Food shortage in the U.S.?

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The weather did not co-operate with farmers this year and the result was devastating to the yields of many crops such as Corn, Grain, and soybeans. This has led to a shortage for many of these staples and prices are expected to rise sharply. Some companies are already raising prices of their goods as a result.

While many experts believe this will not result in a food shortage in the U.S., some believe that poorer countries will feel the pain. Many countries rely on U.S. farm goods and the higher prices will strain these countries to the limit. I hope that there are some other countries that can fill the food gap that has been created.

No Problem

Friday, December 31st, 2010

The one thing everyone in my family has in common is our love of food. Whenever the holidays roll around, we always have plenty to eat. Everybody has their own specialties they make and bring for the rest of the family to enjoy. While that’s a pretty good thing, it does lead to some overeating for some. I must admit that I have been guilty of that myself.

Now that the holidays are almost over, it’s time to start thinking about shedding the extra pounds I put on. When it comes to weight loss though, it can be difficult to do. I talked with many people about the problem and heard that there are weight loss pills you can take on the internet. I thought I might try some out and see how they do. After all, what could it hurt?

After doing a certain amount of research on the problem, I found that it was going to be difficult figuring out which pills were the best weight loss pills. Luckily I know some people who have some knowledge on the subject and they were able to help me out. I have made a decision though and have decided that I am going to do whatever it takes to reduce my weight. Wish me luck!

Eat Your Vegetables!!

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

A study that was conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Americans are not eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables. They also found that Americans are actually eating less and less fruits each year. This is cause for concern to some.

A healthy diet is important to everyone. Keeping your body healthy not only makes you feel better, it also saves you money. Staying fit not only includes your diet; you also need to exercise as well. I think that everyone needs to reconsider their diets and do a better job of keeping it balanced.

Paris and Bush meat

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The city of Paris has long been known for its cuisine. This time, the menu is a little bit different than you may expect. Due to the growing African population in the city, bush meat is being imported in surprising levels. Experts say the illegal trade is growing and is a danger to wild populations of animals.

Such animals as rats, monkeys, crocodiles, and anteaters are being brought into the city. They carcasses are usually dried and are sold at markets under the table. Experts worry that the animals present a danger to public health as well. Bacteria and Ebola viruses can be found in these animals and could be a grave health concern. I hope this practice is soon stopped!
