Family Time

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

Easter dinner was delicious, of course, and it was especially nice because we were able to spend time with my cousin and her family from Southern Maryland. This is a long way for them to drive and we weren’t sure they would come this far for dinner, so I was glad to see them walk in the door around 1:00 pm.

While the women fussed in the kitchen, some of us guys got around to talking about computers and the internet. I was talking to my cousin’s husband about creating a family blog so we could all keep better informed. He was very interested in learning about getting a family domain name and signing up for website hosting to get the blog started.

A good source of information for beginners is on a site that reviews, compares and rates hosting companies. I looked at their Top 10 list and was surprised to find that I am familiar with each of the names listed. I even have my blog hosted on one of the companies they reviewed, and I will agree with everything they said on their site.

I like to read blog articles on sites that I visit if they have a blog. Sometimes you get more personal information and opinions that way. They recently added an article about blog templates that even I did not already know the information in the article, and I’ve been working on my blog for over 3 years now. Just goes to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Easter Ham

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

My family has always enjoyed a nice ham dinner for Easter. As long as I can remember, we have made as much fuss over Easter Sunday Dinner as we do over Thanksgiving Dinner.

My mother used to prepare all kinds of great side dishes to serve with the ham. I personally liked her scalloped potatoes best, but my dad used to ave about the sweet potato casserole.

Dessert for Easter Dinner is always cake. Sometimes it is carrot cake, but most times it is a layered yellow butter cake with white frosting sprinkled with grated coconut. One year my mother made the cake cut out in pieces and put together to look like an Easter rabbit. Us kids thought that was the greatest cake, ever!

No Problem

Friday, December 31st, 2010

The one thing everyone in my family has in common is our love of food. Whenever the holidays roll around, we always have plenty to eat. Everybody has their own specialties they make and bring for the rest of the family to enjoy. While that’s a pretty good thing, it does lead to some overeating for some. I must admit that I have been guilty of that myself.

Now that the holidays are almost over, it’s time to start thinking about shedding the extra pounds I put on. When it comes to weight loss though, it can be difficult to do. I talked with many people about the problem and heard that there are weight loss pills you can take on the internet. I thought I might try some out and see how they do. After all, what could it hurt?

After doing a certain amount of research on the problem, I found that it was going to be difficult figuring out which pills were the best weight loss pills. Luckily I know some people who have some knowledge on the subject and they were able to help me out. I have made a decision though and have decided that I am going to do whatever it takes to reduce my weight. Wish me luck!

Finished shopping

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Since Christmas is drawing closer every day, I wanted to finish the shopping list that has been lying on my desk. I was wondering what to get for my aunt Jenny and Uncle Dave. That’s when the idea hit me that I should get them one of the window plant boxes that I had seen online. The more I thought about it the more I knew it would be the perfect gift.

It was during the summer that I first came to be aware of window boxes. A friend of mine down the street had some installed on his house and they made it look so much better. I think that nearly everyone on the street was jealous of him and many people on our block wanted them. My uncle’s house would be a great place to put them as the front looks kind of plain.

I happen to know that my aunt Jenny loves plants and would be well able to take care of them. The other thing was that they are easy to install and are fairly inexpensive. I went online and selected a few of the window flower boxes I thought they would like. Now that my shopping is done, I can sit back and relax until next Christmas!

Coming Fast

Friday, December 10th, 2010

Nearly everyone in my family has been really busy lately. What we all found out was that Christmas is sneaking up on us fast. I don’t think that any one of us is really prepared for it and so we had to come up with some gift ideas pretty quick. I was fortunate enough to remember a site I had visited before called jk adams. It was there that I knew I could find some excellent gifts.

One item that caught my eye on the site was a jk adams cutting board. I had a feeling that there were many people in my family who would like to have one of those. I thought how great it would be to knock down our Christmas list by ordering a few of them. Since I was on the site anyway, I decided to see what else I could find.

While the site has many things, there was one other item that I took a fancy too. It was the jk adams spice rack. I thought it was pretty cool and so it became clear to me that it would be a nice gift. I knew my mom needed to organize her kitchen some and that would be a great way to help her out. I am glad I was able to find so many great gifts this close to Christmas. I think I’ll start my shopping a little sooner next year and avoid the last minute rush.
