Old Songs

Feeling a little down and grumpy, so I went on Youtube and started listening to old songs. Some of them are vaguely familiar and some I’ve never heard before. It started with a Celine Dion song from back in 1990 and somehow morphed into a duet by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn – and I don’t even like country music much. The duet is called “You’re the Reason Out Kids Are Ugly.” It’s a really funny novelty song from the 1970’s that I am sure my parents listened to and got a good laugh from the lyrics.

That’s part of the fun of Youtube – you never know where your listening buffet will take you. Music is such a huge part of our lives. I wish I had taken the time to learn some type of musical instrument when I was younger. I have been thinking about taking some type of music lessons, either the guitar or the piano. Either way I would have to take advantage of some of the deals online like musicians friend used gear has for people that can’t invest a whole lot of money while taking the time to learn any type of musical instrument. A test drive is totally understandable when it comes to items like this.

Goodbye Guitar Hero

The popular video game called Guitar Hero has stopped being produced. The company called Blizzard Inc stopped making the game as the sales are failing. The game was very popular for many years but interest has faded.

The game was fun for awhile and very profitable for the company. The problem was that it was expensive to make and many accessories are required. The company will go on though as it just released the popular “Call of Duty: Black Ops” game.

I can remember going to the local strip mall that had so many stores that attracted youth, games, videos, music back in “the day” I spent a good amount of time at the local guitar center dallas with their unique clientele of odd folks that I felt so at home with. Most likely I never will have that type of relationship with people like that that I met through out those younger years.

Giant Fish Sales

The Japanese have been well known for their love of fish. This is especially true when it comes to the taste of tuna. They have proven their love of tuna when a Japanese businessman paid a record price of $ 750,000 dollars for a prized blue fin tuna. He plans to sell the fish to the customers at his restaurant.

The tuna weighed in at a weight of 592 pounds. The owner of the fish says it is perfect with just the right amount of fat and that the color is very good. I guess time will tell and we will see whether or not the tuna pays off.

New Year Resolutions

I’ve never been a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. I can’t help feel that they are land mines that doom us to failure rather than inspire us to succeed at something. Most people seem to focus on losing weight or quitting smoking or ending some bad habit. Those are hard to do and just because you make a promise on New Year’s Day to stop doing it does not make the magic solution to your problem.

This year I am going to resolve to be more sociable. I know that will be hard to measure and hard to gauge success or failure at such a noble effort, but I feel like I need to make a bigger effort to build a social network of people who have either common interests with me or who can help me achieve my own goals, like a mentor or someone in my field that can teach me or lead me to higher achievements.

So wish me luck with my resolution and I’ll wish you luck with yours.

TV and Christmas

It has hard put to find anything on the television that isn’t pertaining to the Holiday Season, that is in full swing as I type these holiday words, we just can’t seem to get away from this over abundance of Holiday Spirit.

At the Mall and ALL the other stores have been playing holiday music for the past several weeks and have gone the extra mile to decorate in the most elaborate decorating frenzy ever, it just seems that it is everywhere and it can be a bit over whelming when you are as strapped for cash as I seem to be lately.

One more week and it will all be a memory, hopefully a good one for each and all.
