Goodbye Guitar Hero

The popular video game called Guitar Hero has stopped being produced. The company called Blizzard Inc stopped making the game as the sales are failing. The game was very popular for many years but interest has faded.

The game was fun for awhile and very profitable for the company. The problem was that it was expensive to make and many accessories are required. The company will go on though as it just released the popular “Call of Duty: Black Ops” game.

I can remember going to the local strip mall that had so many stores that attracted youth, games, videos, music back in “the day” I spent a good amount of time at the local guitar center dallas with their unique clientele of odd folks that I felt so at home with. Most likely I never will have that type of relationship with people like that that I met through out those younger years.

In A Gadda Da Vida

Iron Butterfly was best known for their song In A Gadda Da Vida which had a short version (3:47 minutes) that you heard on the radio, back in the 70’s, and then they had a long version that you had to buy the album to hear. That version was a bit over 17 minutes and had the best drum solo of all times.

I remember going to a school dance, back when they had live bands that played, not a D.J. playing recorded songs and this particular band took a chance and decided to play this wild song that just wouldn’t have sounded the same using  electronic drums. And I have to say that they rocked the place into a frenzy during those wonderful 17 minutes. That it the only dance that I really remember, the rest are all just a jumble in my memory.

So when I went online and Googled musiscians friend it reminded me of the days when music was a whole different ball game. It’s sad to think that kids these days won’t know experiencing a live band is all about unless they go to a concert. These days the cost of going to a live concert is outrageous and the huge crowds are a real concern for so many safety reasons.

In the meantime, if you have 17 minutes to listen to a true “Golden Oldie” here is Iron Butterfly at it’s finest.

The Beatles

The Beatles enjoy the reputation of being one of the most popular bands in the world. They are absolutely one of my favorites and have provided me with many years of enjoyment. That’s why I was excited when I heard about the new release of their songs that have been digitally remastered. There are 12 albums total and all will be released. I hope that you are as ready to rediscover their music as I am!

What Do You Think of This Video?

I love music.  If the television isn’t on a movie, it’s on a music channel and no I’m not talking MTV or VH1 either.  I’m talking the channels that only play music like the Sirius channels.  Anyway, I was just flipping through the stations on my car radio trying to find something other than Christmas music and this song caught my attention.

The Gretsch drums were what first made me stop on this song but then I started listening to the words. Believe it or not but you can understand what they’re saying which was a major plus.  The group was named Fun. Pretty cool but I didn’t get to hear the whole song so I hit the computer when I got home trying to find that song.

Man was the video way cool!! I have always been into history and well this video gave me a look into history and a great song at the same time. Give it a listen! I don’t think you will be disappointed.
